How to Redeem a Nintendo eShop Download Code
Nintendo download codes are redeemed into a Nintendo Account and normally contain 16 characters. The eShop follows the country setting of that account, making country and console-generation checks essential before redemption.
Redeem on the console
- Connect the console to the internet.
- Open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
- Choose the user linked to the intended Nintendo Account.
- Select Redeem Code or Enter Code.
- Enter the 16-character code and confirm the product.
Country and region
Nintendo says the eShop country is determined by the Nintendo Account country setting. A code intended for a different region may not redeem. Do not change settings casually if the account has balances, subscriptions or purchases tied to its current country.
Switch and Switch 2 products
Original Switch software can often run on Switch 2, but some titles have compatibility limitations. A Switch 2-only code or upgrade pack cannot be treated as an ordinary Switch game. Confirm the console generation and whether an upgrade requires ownership of the original version.
Common errors
Make sure you entered the download code rather than a control number. Check easy-to-confuse characters, release timing, prior redemption and purchase history. If the title is DLC, make sure the base game is present on the same account and compatible by region.
